Thailand's grand dame of championship golf

Weekend
฿7,180
  • Home of the Honda LPGA Thailand since 2007
  • Thailand's first privately owned golf course, dating to 1971
  • Schmidt-Curley renovation created world-class championship conditions

Our Take

There's a reason Siam Country Club Old Course gets mentioned in the same breath as Asia's finest. This isn't just another Pattaya resort track. it's Thailand's original private golf club, the country's answer to Augusta without the azaleas.

Signature Hole

Hole 18 (Par 5) - A 540-yard dogleg climbing relentlessly uphill to a heavily contoured green, with a large golden Buddha statue watching over your approach shot and the clubhouse amphitheater creating tournament-style drama.

Pro Tip

Trust your caddie on the undulating greens. the subtle breaks will fool you, and staying below the hole makes all the difference.

Thailand's revolutionary 6-6-6 layout rewards shotmakers, not bombers

4.7

Weekend

Twilight
฿3,500
  • Asia's only 6-6-6 layout offers unmatched flexibility and variety
  • True all-inclusive package with meals, cart, and caddie included
  • Rolling terrain breaks the Bangkok flat-course stereotype

Our Take

Nikanti throws out the rulebook and somehow makes it work brilliantly. Pirapon Namatra's unconventional 6-6-6 design features three loops of six holes, each with two par-3s, two par-4s, and two par-5s. It sounds like a gimmick until you actually play it. Then you realize it's genuinely clever. Want to squeeze in 12 holes before lunch? Done. Need another crack at that closing par-5 that got the better of you? Loop back around.

Signature Hole

Hole 6 (Par 5) - A tantalizing short par-5 cutting through palm trees where two precise shots can reach the green, but bunker complexes punish any lack of accuracy

Pro Tip

Leave the driver in the bag more often than you think. this course rewards position over distance on nearly every hole

Black Mountain Golf Club

Thailand's championship test with dramatic mountain backdrops

4.5
Phil Ryan / Pacific Coast Design · 2007
Weekday
฿4,500
Weekend
฿5,500
  • Voted Best Course in Thailand for seven consecutive years
  • Host of European and Asian Tour events in pristine condition
  • Stunning jet-black mountain scenery frames every hole

Our Take

Black Mountain announces itself the moment you arrive. Those distinctive jet-black granite mountains create a natural amphieatre around the property, and Phil Ryan used this dramatic canvas to craft something genuinely special. This isn't your typical Southeast Asian resort course. it's a proper championship venue that's hosted European and Asian Tour events, yet remains accessible to everyday golfers.

Signature Hole

Hole 6 East (Par 5) - A dramatic downhill journey from hillside tees to a green protected by a substantial lake, where only the foolhardy go for the green in two over water, sand and trees.

Pro Tip

Book the East/North combination for the original championship layout that hosted the Asian Tour events.

  • Tiger Woods won the 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic here—proper pedigree
  • Island greens at 7 and 11 will test your nerve and shotmaking
  • Greens running 10.5+ stimp in a city known for slow surfaces

Our Take

Alpine is the course that makes you question whether you're still in Bangkok. You drive out past Don Mueang through increasingly rural roads, pass through the gates, and suddenly you're standing on terrain that has no business existing on former rice paddies. Ronald Garl moved serious earth here, creating elevation changes and undulations that feel imported from somewhere else entirely. It's disorienting in the best way.

Signature Hole

Hole 7 (Par 5) - A 555-yard brute with an island green connected by a sliver of land. Tiger eagled it en route to victory, which tells you everything about the risk-reward calculus required here.

Pro Tip

Keep every approach below the hole. these back-to-front greens punish anything above the pin with knee-knocker comebackers.

Weekend
฿7,500
  • 27 holes of Schmidt-Curley design with Asia's first triple green
  • Host of LPGA Thailand and Thailand Open on immaculate Paspalum fairways
  • Dramatic elevation changes reveal stunning Gulf of Thailand vistas

Our Take

Let's be honest: the Plantation Course will humble you. This course doesn't flatter your game or send you home feeling like a hero. Schmidt-Curley built it to host professional events, and it shows in every single hole.

Signature Hole

Hole 5 Sugar Cane (Par 5) - A 596-yard uphill monster featuring 28 bunkers and a split fairway that forces a strategic choice between the inviting but punishing right side and the smarter left route for any chance at par.

Pro Tip

Play from the white tees. the course plays brutally long with minimal roll-out and constant uphill approaches, so swallow your ego.

  • Walk the same fairways Tiger Woods dominated in 1997
  • Five-star service rivals any luxury resort in Asia
  • Immaculate conditioning year-round on this parkland masterpiece

Our Take

Thai Country Club isn't going to blow your mind with elevation changes or ocean views. It's not going to make your Instagram followers jealous with dramatic cliff-edge holes. What it will do is make you feel like absolute royalty from the moment your car pulls up to the valet until you're sipping post-round drinks overlooking the 18th green.

Signature Hole

Hole 6 (Par 3, 218 yards) - The most demanding hole on the course with water guarding the right and bunkers front and back, averaging 3.38 strokes even for professionals.

Pro Tip

Take one extra club into every green. the elevated fronts kill any roll and yardages play longer than they look.

4.6

Weekend
฿5,500
  • Play Asia's only floating island green accessible by boat
  • Tournament-quality conditioning on a 7,400+ yard championship layout
  • Private club experience with world-class Mediterranean-style facilities

Our Take

Let's be honest, you're coming to Amata Spring for one reason: that ridiculous floating green on 17. And it absolutely delivers. Standing on the tee box, staring at a green bobbing in a lake with no bailout option anywhere, your hands get a little sweaty. Hit it on, take a boat ride to the green, and you'll be talking about it for years. Miss it, and you'll still be talking about it. Just differently.

Signature Hole

Hole 17 (Par 3) - A 145-yard shot to Asia's only floating green, a 40x40 yard putting surface that actually moves and requires a boat ride to reach. Iconic, nerve-wracking, and utterly unforgettable.

Pro Tip

The floating green position changes, so check with your caddie on the actual yardage before pulling your club.

฿6,500
  • Walk the same fairways where Tiger won the 1998 Johnnie Walker Classic
  • Holes 11-15 form arguably the best five-hole stretch in Thailand
  • Dramatic canyon scenery carved from an abandoned tin mine

Our Take

Blue Canyon's Canyon Course doesn't care about your feelings. This is the real deal, a course that hosted Tiger Woods three times at the Johnnie Walker Classic and has humbled better players than you or me since 1991. The layout makes no apologies for its difficulty, and that's precisely why serious golfers keep coming back.

Signature Hole

Hole 14 (Par 3) - A stunning drop shot from an elevated tee to an island green surrounded by the canyon. No bailout, pure commitment required, and one of the most photographed holes in Southeast Asia.

Pro Tip

Club down at least one and a half clubs on the par 3s. the elevation changes are deceptive and the wind swirling through the canyons will humble you.

  • Challenging par 3s that will have you reaching for driver

Our Take

The Royal Golf & Country Club sits in that sweet spot that makes it genuinely useful for Bangkok golf trips. Five minutes from the airport, thirty from downtown, and good enough that you won't feel like you're settling just for convenience.

Signature Hole

Hole 17 (Par 3) - A 230-yard monster that demands a driver from most mortals, with trouble lurking everywhere if you miss the green.

Pro Tip

Book an early tee time if flying out. you can realistically play 18 and still make an afternoon departure from Suvarnabhumi.

Weekend
฿5,500
  • Signature par-3 15th offers stunning views to Sing Toh island
  • Immaculately maintained fairways with fast, consistent roll
  • Thailand's top architect Pirapon Namatra's strategic masterpiece

Our Take

Pineapple Valley sits on former agricultural land about 15 minutes south of Hua Hin, and while the resort development surrounds it, the course itself feels wonderfully natural and open. The layout follows the contours of what were once pineapple fields, and architect Pirapon Namatra, Thailand's most celebrated course designer, has created something that rewards strategic thinking over pure length.

Signature Hole

Hole 15 (Par 3) - A mere 119-147 yards but the sensational ocean views across to Sing Toh island make this short wedge shot worth the green fee alone.

Pro Tip

Budget 300-400 THB for your caddie tip. they genuinely know every break on these tricky greens.

฿5,100
  • Toby Cobb's first solo design after apprenticing with Coore & Crenshaw
  • Hybrid links-parkland layout unlike anything else near Bangkok
  • That infamous 100-yard 18th with its terrifying pot bunker

Our Take

Siam Country Club Bangkok is the kind of course that sparks debate in the clubhouse afterward, and that's exactly what makes it interesting. Toby Cobb, fresh off his apprenticeship with the legendary Coore & Crenshaw partnership, delivered something genuinely different for this part of the world. This hybrid layout borrows links sensibilities and plants them on gently rolling terrain just 30 minutes south of the capital.

Signature Hole

Hole 18 (Par 3) - A controversial 100-yard finisher where missing left finds a 3-meter deep pot bunker that'll haunt your dreams. Love it or hate it, you won't forget it.

Pro Tip

No driving range here. just warm-up nets. so loosen up properly before you tee off.

฿4,300
  • The 17th hole drops 150 feet from tee to green
  • Former tin mine creates landscapes unlike anywhere else in Thailand
  • Dramatic elevation changes reward strategic thinking over raw power

Our Take

Red Mountain is an expedition through Phuket's industrial past wrapped in tropical jungle chaos. Jonathan Morrow took an abandoned tin mine and turned it into something that feels like it shouldn't exist. Rocky cliffs that once yielded ore now frame fairways. Flooded canyons that were mining scars now swallow errant drives.

Signature Hole

Hole 17 (Par 3) - A vertigo-inducing 150-foot drop from an elevated tee box to a postage-stamp green nestled in jungle-filled depths below. Club selection here is pure guesswork for first-timers.

Pro Tip

Trust your caddie absolutely on club selection. the elevation changes will fool your eyes every single time.

  • Schmidt-Curley design using natural rolling terrain brilliantly
  • 27 holes with stunning mountain backdrop and cool highland climate
  • Immaculate Paspalum fairways and fast Bermuda greens year-round

Our Take

The drive out to Chiang Mai Highlands sets the tone before you even reach the first tee. Leaving the city behind, you wind through rice paddies and plantations into the foothills, the air noticeably cooler and cleaner with every kilometer. By the time you pull into the Thai-styled clubhouse, you're already in a different headspace from the typical Thai golf experience.

Signature Hole

Hole 4C (Par 4) - A demanding dogleg right with a tee shot threading left of fairway bunkers, then a long approach navigating water and sand right of the green. Execute both shots well and birdie awaits.

Pro Tip

Play the original 18 holes (A/B combination) if possible. the newer nine doesn't quite match the quality of the originals.

Our Take

There's something surreal about playing Thana City. You're standing over a putt on an island green and a jet screams overhead so close you'd swear you could read the airline logo. It's bizarre, it's Bangkok, and honestly, it's part of the charm.

Signature Hole

Hole 18 (Par 4) - A beast of a finishing hole stretching over 440 yards with water threatening the entire right side and an island green demanding a precise long iron or wood approach.

Pro Tip

Our Take

Let's be clear upfront: you can't just show up and play Ballyshear. It's a private members' club, and that exclusivity is part of what makes finally getting through the gates feel like unwrapping something precious. But if you can wrangle an invitation or book through the right channels, what awaits is genuinely unlike anything else in Southeast Asia.

Signature Hole

Hole 8 (Par 3) - The Biarritz, featuring a dramatic gully bisecting the green that demands precision and nerve on approach.

Pro Tip

Listen to your caddie religiously. blind shots and deceptive greens will humble you without local knowledge.

Our Take

Summit Windmill sits in that peculiar space where convenience meets genuine quality, and somehow pulls off both. Thirty minutes from downtown Bangkok, practically next door to Suvarnabhumi Airport, you'd expect a compromise course churning through corporate outings. Instead, Nick Faldo left behind something that actually makes you think.

Signature Hole

Our Take

Laguna Golf Phuket sits at the heart of Asia's first integrated resort destination, and it plays exactly like you'd expect from a course designed to complement five-star hotels rather than humble them. After Paul Jansen's 2014 redesign, this is no pushover, but it's also not trying to beat you up.

Signature Hole

Hole 17 (Par 5) - A monster 612-yard brute requiring two carries over water, setting up a dramatic finish through the resort's most demanding stretch.

Pro Tip

Book an early morning tee time to enjoy cooler temperatures and avoid the afternoon sea breezes that can wreak havoc on the exposed back nine.

Riverdale catches you off guard. You're driving through factories and villages north of Bangkok, wondering if the GPS has led you astray, when suddenly this impeccably manicured layout appears like a mirage. Jonathan Morrow and Al Tikkanen, the architects who gave us Red Mountain in Phuket, have pulled off something remarkable here. They've manufactured genuine elevation changes on what was pancake-flat land, and somehow made it feel natural.

Signature Hole

Hole 8 (Par 3) - A dual-green masterpiece where you choose between a postage-stamp green with pot bunker or a terrifying island green that makes TPC Sawgrass's 17th look forgiving. Both options demand precision under pressure.

Pro Tip

Ask to play the back nine first so you finish on holes 6-7-8, the spectacular three-hole stretch that defines this course.
